The Discworld Convention Card Game, part 1

Now here's the Thing I've occasionnally been alluding to these last months, the result of these many hours of work I wasn't allowed to talk about...

For the 2014 Discworld Convention, Chairman John 'Dr Hix' Hicks had the idea to create a card game for people to play during the Con. The cards represented the various people, events and things that make the Con and people would be able to collect, swap and play with them. I think I can say it was an instant success - people swapped, bought the booster packs, went to great lengths in order to collect the whole set of 52 different cards. Some of them asked me to sign them! I felt like a star...

I was very happy and proud to be chosen to do the artwork for the game, and I had a lot of fun sneaking in private jokes and casting my friends as the characters ^^ I started working on it in the autumn of 2013, but to be honest most of it was done during the last month before the complete set had to be sent to the printers, because I am the Queen of Procrastination.

Here are the first 15 of 52 cards that were produced in total:

1 - The Chairman himself, the wonderful Dr Hix. For those who don't know, the character from Making Money and Unseen Academicals is named after him, not the other way round, and he's embraced his evil flamboyance for all that it's worth. I'm a big fan ^^
2 - The Vice-Chairs, Naomi and Mandy.
3 - The Guest of Honour, Sir Terry Pratchett, the Hatted One. Of course, he had to pull out of the Convention at the last minute, but he generously sent his Hat to stand up for him.
4 and 5 - The Guests : Stephen Briggs aka Lord Vetinari; Rob Wilkins, Sir Terry's PA; Ian, Bernard and Reb from the Discworld Emporium; Stephen Baxter, who wasn't able to attend either; Colin Smythe, Terry's agent; Jacqueline Simpson, co-author of the Folklore of Discworld ; Jack Cohen and Ian Stewart, co-authors of the Science of Discworld; and Ben Aaronovitch, author of stuff I haven't read. Daniel Knight, the director of the Troll Bridge film, was added to the guest list at the last minute so I couldn't get him onto a card.
